Hello everyone. My name is Brendan O’Kelly. I come originally from Ireland but now live in Hamburg. Growing up in a musical family, music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing in Bands when I was a young teenager and continue to this day. I fell in love with the guitar when a friend introduced me to Jimi Hendrix when I was 16 years old. From that day I began learning everything I could about the instrument and I have not stopped learning. I moved to Switzerland with my family around 2012 were I worked as a music teacher at the International school Kreuzlingen Konstanz and later at the International school St Gallen.

My time there showed me the importance of excepting students for who they are and how to move a their pace to encourage progress. After my time in the International schools I began playing live with local bands in the Bodensee area which gave me the opportunity to work for some local theatre groups and visiting artists like Alex Aure and John Watson. From playing with these artists I was introduced to the world of studio musicians and I have been fortunate have worked with Markus Born at Klein Audio Welt Sandhausen and with Nick Brine at Rockfield Studios Wales.

From my time working as a studio musician I was reminded of the importance of creativity, patience, to take risks and that it is OK to have fun once and a while. I am very happy to be part of the community at CMS and I look forward to my future there.

Hallo zusammen. Mein Name ist Brendan O’Kelly. Ich komme ursprünglich aus Irland, lebe aber jetzt in Hamburg. Da ich in einer musikalischen Familie aufgewachsen bin, war Musik schon immer Teil meines Lebens, solange ich mich erinnern kann. Ich habe als junger Teenager angefangen, in Bands zu spielen und mache das bis heute. Ich verliebte mich in die Gitarre, als ein Freund mir Jimi Hendrix vorstellte, als ich 16 Jahre alt war. Von diesem Tag an begann ich alles über das Instrument zu lernen, was ich konnte, und ich habe nicht aufgehört zu lernen. 2012 zog ich mit meiner Familie in die Schweiz, wo ich als Musiklehrer an der Internationalen Schule Kreuzlingen Konstanz und später an der Internationalen Schule St. Gallen arbeitete. Meine Zeit dort hat mir gezeigt, wie wichtig es ist, die Schüler so zu akzeptieren, wie sie sind, und wie man sich in ihrem Tempo bewegt, um Fortschritte zu fördern. Nach meiner Zeit an den Internationalen Schulen begann ich, mit lokalen Bands in der Bodenseeregion live zu spielen, was mir die
Möglichkeit gab, für einige lokale Theatergruppen und Gastkünstler wie Alex Aure und John Watson zu arbeiten. Durch das Spielen mit diesen Künstlern wurde ich in die Welt der Studiomusiker eingeführt und ich hatte das Glück, mit Markus Born in der Klein Audio Welt Sandhausen und mit Nick Brine in den Rockfield Studios Wales zu arbeiten. Die Zeit als Studiomusiker hat mich daran erinnert, wie wichtig
Kreativität und Geduld sind, dass man Risiken eingehen muss und dass es in Ordnung ist, ab und zu Spaß zu haben. Ich bin sehr froh, Teil der CMS-Gemeinschaft zu sein und freue mich auf meine Zukunft hier.

Unterrichtskonzept

Everyone has a different reason for wanting to learn an instrument. My job is to find out why the student wants to learn and encourage it. It is also my job to identify strengths and weaknesses then, to build on the strengths and to work with the student to face the weaknesses in their playing making and to help make them better musicians. I have found the best way to help a student is to start at their level and slowly build their ability and knowledge all while making the experience fun and interesting as possible.
